Public feedback will shape the future of the Island’s flood defences.
So says the Infrastructure Minister as his department aims to reduce the social and economic impact of coastal floodi
Phil Gawne insists the views of the public, Tynwald members, local authorities and specialist coastal defence engineers will all be taken into account before any decisions are made.
A series of community meetings were held around the Island at the end of February to discuss how to improve the Island’s sea defences.
It followed the publication of a government-commissioned report focusing on the seven sites deemed most at risk of harbour flooding.
To implement all the solutions would cost £32 million.
Mr Gawne says the department is now reviewing feedback from those meetings and discussing long-term options to combat harbour flooding and coastal overtopping.
Audiences in Castletown and Ramsey expressed a clear preference for a setback wall around the harbour.
