Public Health: Not possible to model Omicron impact yet

But says R rate has fallen

Omicron will drive a fourth wave of Coronavirus on the Isle of Man over the rest of this year and into 2022.

But data from the latest Public Health Surveillance Report shows the reproduction rate of Covid-19 on the Island has actually fallen.

Public Health says despite the new variant of concern – Omicron – rapidly becoming the dominant strain in the UK it's not yet possible to model the impact of this on the Isle of Man.

It adds that it doesn't know how it will affect demand on NHS services with any accuracy at this stage.

The report shows case numbers have been falling in the last week with a fall in, or levelling of, cases across all age groups – the current seven day average of confirmed positive cases is around 86.

The reproduction – or R – number was 0.77 in the period the data snapshot was taken. That's a fall of 1.66 from the last report which shows a decrease in spread.

The number of Covid-19 related deaths, recorded since the start of the pandemic, remains at 67.

At the time the data snapshot was taken six people were in hospital with Covid-19 – all had symptoms. 66.7 per cent of those inpatients were 2+2 vaccinated.
