Public invited to mark UN Day

Organisation to be saluted at Douglas event

The global influence of the United Nations will be saluted at an event in Douglas tomorrow (Mon, 24 Oct).

The Island's United Nations Association joins groups around the world each year, celebrating the anniversary of the body's creation, in October 1948.

Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney will give an address at the Manx Museum on Monday evening to mark UN Day.

Its title 'A Newcomer to the Isle of Man in a Low Growth World' will combine a local and international perspective.

The governor is following in the footsteps of his predecessor Adam Wood, who also delivered a speech on UN Day on the year of his arrival in 2011.

The event starts at 7pm and the members of the public are welcome to attend as guests of members.

The Isle of Man's UN Association chair is Chris Thomas MHK.
