Rise of 1% to go towards maintenance costs
Increasing public sector rents by 1% from April next year is in the tenants' best interests.
That's the message from Infrastructure Minister Tim Baker as those living in the Island's 6,200 public sector homes face increased costs of between 78p and £1.52 per week.
The Department of Infrastructure agreed to the price rise to cover the cost of maintenance.
Tim Glover spoke with Mr Baker, who insists freezing rents would have only had a short-term benefit for those living in the properties:
