Public turns out to remember tragedy

43 years since Summerland disaster

The 43rd anniversary of the Summerland tragedy was remembered this evening.

Fifty people were killed, and many more injured or traumatised, when a huge fire broke out at the popular Douglas tourist attraction in 1973.

At 7.30pm, a simple commemoration of the men, women and children who lost their lives took place - including a minute's silence.

A memorial concert will be held at the Peel Centenary Centre this Saturday, 6 August.

The following is a clip from Manx Radio's archives, as the tragedy unfolded live on that fateful day
