Thirty-five-year-old admits breaching coronavirus measures
Drinking lager at a friend’s house after being warned about socialising has landed a Pulrose man in prison.
Thirty-five-year-old Wayne Mellor of Hazel Close appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to being absent from home with no good reason in defiance of the Island’s Emergency Powers Act.
Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing police had warned Mellor to stay at home after finding him at his girlfriend’s flat on Fairfield Terrace on 16 April.
On 18 April, officers went to a house on Alder Road in Douglas after a report from neighbours.
There, they found unemployed Mellor with his friend – the pair admitted they’d been drinking lager together for more than two hours.
Defence advocate David Clegg told the hearing Mellor had gone to the Post Office to help his friend, but bought beers after finding it was shut.
Jailing Mellor for a month, Mrs Hughes told him too many people were still appearing before her after ignoring warnings and information about the vital message of social distancing.
