QEII confirms arrangements for strike action

A letter has been sent to parents/guardians

Queen Elizabeth II High School has now confirmed its arrangements for two days of strike action planned to take place next week.

Members of the NASUWT teaching union are striking on Wednesday and Thursday (30 November - 1 December).

The Peel high school has now joined other schools in announcing their plans for a "worst case" scenario.

The Headteacher has written to parents, confirming the school will only be able to accommodate some students on the two days:

  • The Specialist Provision Centre will operate as normal;
  • Year 13 students will attend school for planned mock exams only as they already have a planned revision week (revising at home);
  • Year 12 students will attend school as normal and register in the Sixth Form Centre at the start of the day. If any staff member is absent for their lesson, they will continue with independent study in the Sixth Form Centre;
  • The Sixth Form collaboration lessons will continue as normal and if a teacher is absent in any of the collaboration schools, students will continue with independent study at the collaboration school, travel arrangements will not be affected;
  • UCM courses will continue to run on Wednesday 30th November. Transport will be provided as normal and parents/guardians will need to make arrangements for their child to return home from school at 12.00pm;
  • All other students will remain at home and will access learning via Google Classroom. The staff who are not striking will either teach their lesson via Google Meet or will have work set on the Google Classroom. Students must ensure that they are aware of their password for Google Classroom prior to the first strike day;
  • Students who are on Free School Meals (FSM) will be provided with a packed lunch, which can be collected at 11.00am from the school entrance hall;
  • A small number of vulnerable students may be invited into school in order to facilitate their online learning.
  • School buses are expected to run as normal
