QEII High School and Peel Castle evacuated

Ongoing incident, updates below

Queen Elizabeth II High School in Peel has been evacuated with pupils being told to distance themselves from the premises.

Emergency services are on the scene with roadblocks police tape in place.

The reason is not yet known.

Officers are advising members of the public to refrain from attending two areas - QE2 and Peel Castle. 

We'll bring you more on that as we receive it.

UPDATE:

Residents at Mylchreest Court, the sheltered accomodation complex  next to QEII have been asked to stay indoors for safety.

There are unconfirmed reports armed police are at the scene:

Police are advising that drone operators do not deploy their devices at this time.

**MAIN ROAD CLOSED - ST JOHNS TO PEEL **

During the closure ALL buses operate: Douglas to Peel from Ballacraine via Main Road, Station Road, Hope, Curragh Road, Ballacraine, Ballig Bridge and Poortown Road to Peel.

Peel to Douglas via Poortown Road, Ballig Bridge, Ballacraine, Hope, Station Road and Main Road to Ballacraine.

The main road from St Johns to Peel is now open - buses have resumed normal timetabled services again.
