Quayle defends refugee stance

Donation not resettlement, says chief minister

The chief minister has defended government's renewed stance on bringing refugees to the Island.

Howard Quayle last week announced that government's International Development Committee would be setting aside a further million pounds to provide aid in wartorn Syria - but no asylum seekers would be accepted here to live.

It came after Speaker of the House of Keys, Juan Watterson, pressed him in Tynwald over whether that decision would be put to Tynwald for a vote.

But Mr Quayle insisted the matter wasn't open to immediate review, and that it was the right option for the Island:
