RAF helicopter in ravine rescue

A man who fell down cliffs on Marine Drive in Douglas is this evening in a satisfactory condition in hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

A helicopter from RAF Valley was called in to winch him from rocks at the bottom of a 200 foot ravine.

The man is thought to be in his 40s but his name has not yet been released.

Paramedics and coastguards were lowered down to help him and lift him onto a stretcher.

It all happened just before 1pm today, half a mile south of Douglas.

Coastguard Commander David Keggin says it was a text book exercise (audio file attached):

It's not known why the man fell.
