An Isle of Man Railways worker has expressed dismay at the potential scale of redundancies announced this week.
Selwyn Morgan is one of two track supervisors responsible for maintaining the entire length of the steam railway.
Their jobs are among 22 which may be axed by the Department of Community, Culture and Lesiure over the next two years, in a bid to save around £900,000 from budgets.
Mr Morgan says the in-house workforce has built up an invaluable range of skills over many years, and it makes no sense to employ contractors in place of skilled specialists:
Friday evening sailings subject to possible disruption or cancellation
More services to be temporarily relocated from Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital
Warning in place for coastal overtopping
