Ramsey board backs appeal

Plans for a new development on Ramsey quayside have been turned down – but the decision’s being appealed with the backing of the town’s commissioners.

Farmers Combine Ltd submitted an application to redevelop the site, next to the former Barry Curran Motors, into seven apartments with car parking.

However, the planning committee decided the demolition of the warehouse on the site would be detrimental to the character and historic context of the area.

Board members felt the decision was out of touch with reality of the existing building, considered unsuitable for economic conversion, while commissioner Mary Bruce called for a much closer understanding of the town's needs if regeneration proposals were to go ahead.
