Ramsey Commissioners to look into CCTV to combat 'persistent' dog fouling

Ramsey Commissioners could be installing a type of CCTV to combat dog fouling across the town in the future.

At last night's public meeting, a proposal was made by Lamara Craine to install motion detection cameras to catch and deter dog walkers from not picking up poo - she wanted to allocate £1000 to install ten of them around Ramsey.

In her proposal she said: "Dog fouling is a persistent issue in our community, leading to unsightly and unhygienic conditions in public spaces, a cause for concern for our residents.

"Despite existing regulations requiring pet owners to clean up after their dogs, instances of non-compliance continue to occur regularly, posing a threat to public health and environmental quality.

"To address this problem effectively, I propose the installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) camera, in the form of camera traps, in strategic locations to deter and identify offenders who fail to pick up their dog's faeces."

However, this was not agreed, and instead a report will be made by officers at the local authority to determine which areas are the worst and what other commissioners and councils are doing to combat the problem.

This will then be used by the board to determine what happens going forward.
