Ramsey Heritage Trail project to begin next week

Pedestrian and cycle route to be resurfaced

An 800-metre section of the former steam railway line in Ramsey is going to be resurfaced, starting next week.

The Heritage Trail project is "designed to provide a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists, in support of the aims of the Active Travel Strategy," government says.

A similar scheme has been completed in Kirk Michael.

The work will take place between Gardeners Lane and Poyll Dooey Road, near to Ramsey Sorting Office, to create a three-metre-wide tarmac path.

In addition, a new 85-metre ‘spur’ path will be constructed roughly half-way along, providing improved access for children attending local schools and people living and working nearby.

The installation of ducting will be included as part of the project to enable the local authority to easily install lighting at a future date.
