Ramsey man accused of falsely claiming he'd swallowed drugs

Charges of ABH, criminal damage and wasting police time for 25-year-old

A court’s heard a Ramsey man spent 37 hours in hospital after allegedly telling police officers he'd swallowed heroin.

Twenty-five-year-old James Tarron Keggin on North Shore Road appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He’s alleged to have breached a combination order between 14 October and 14 November, and also faces a charge of attempted theft on 4 December.

The court heard he’s also facing one charge of causing actual bodily harm to his girlfriend, one of criminal damage to a police cell and one of wasting police time.

Mr Keggin was arrested on 28 December after allegedly attacking his girlfriend in their home, leaving her covered in blood from head and face injuries.

He was taken to Police Headquarters and is accused of making himself vomit repeatedly, before falsely claiming he'd swallowed heroin.

The court heard Mr Keggin spent 37 hours in Noble’s Hospital before medical staff confirmed there were no drugs.

There was no application for bail, and magistrates remanded him in custody to appear in court again on 9 January.
