Ramsey man admits money-laundering thousands

Thirty-year-old tried to send £27,000 in post

A Ramsey man who tried to send £27,000 through the post has admitted money-laundering charges.

Thirty-year-old James William Francis Quayle of Auldyn Meadow Drive appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to two charges of attempting to remove criminal property as well as one of possessing class B drugs.

Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon told the hearing Quayle was caught trying to send the money at Anagh Coar Post Office.

The hearing was told on 31 July, Quayle tried to send a package containing £12,010 through the post.

And less than a week later, on 4 August, he tried to send another package with £15,290 inside it.

The court heard on the same day, police found he had 1.1 grammes of cannabis with a street value of £22.

Mr Arrowsmith declined jurisdiction, saying the case was so serious Quayle would have to be sentenced at a Court of General Gaol Delivery.

Quayle will appear in that court on 18 September.
