Ramsey man asks to be jailed after damaging police van with brick

32-year-old spent 10 days in custody

A court's heard a Ramsey man asked police to jail him and was arrested after he tried to smash a windscreen with a brick.

Thirty-two-year-old Shaun David Bignall, of Mooragh Promenade, appeared before Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks at Douglas Courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to criminal damage on 27 February - the court heard Bignall went to his local police station in the early hours and knocked on the door.

There was no answer and CCTV footage showed him throwing the brick at a police van.

When officers came to the door he said he wanted to go to prison and showed them the damage to the van - they arrested him and took him into custody.

The court heard Bignall had served 10 days in custody - Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks imposed a £150 fine and ordered him to pay £125 towards prosecution costs.
