Large diesel unit been in place 50 years
The diesel-fuelled Ramsey power station is soon to be decommissioned.
Dr Alex Allinson is chairman of Manx Utilities and an MHK in the town.
He says the old power station equipment won't just be scrapped.
The large engine facility was set up almost 50 years ago, when the Island was more reliant on diesel generation - and it ran concurrently with similar plants in Pulrose and Peel.
Dr Allinson said Manx Utilities plans to look at renewable energy alternatives over the next two decades:
CoMin making 'significant and determined efforts' to implement recommendations from Ranson review
Rain events 'difficult to forecast' on the Isle of Man
Planning permission granted for 26 industrial units
Port St Mary Commissioners urging residents not to 'struggle in silence'
