Ramsey venue for first diabetes meeting

There's a chance to find out more about changes to the Island's diabetes service this evening (Wednesday).

The first of four public meetings over the next fortnight, is being held at Ramsey town hall.

Responsibility for the care of hundreds of diabetics whose conditions are under control is to be transferred from the Diabetes Centre at Noble's Hospital to their GPs.

The Department of Health says those with minimal complications don't need to visit the centre and the change will reduce unacceptably long waiting times for those who must see a specialist.

Director of health strategy and performance Norman McGregor Edwards will be joined by health staff at the meetings, to answer questions (play audio file):

This evening's meeting in Ramsey is at 7pm and the next one will be at Keyll Darree, next to the main entrance to Noble's Hospital, on Friday.

Next week there are meetings at Castletown Civic Centre on January 19, and at the Masonic Lodge in Peel on January 21.

All the meetings start at 7pm.
