Ramsey's new lifeboat to be showcased today

Ann and James Ritchie 2 arrived earlier this year

Volunteers from Ramsey Lifeboat will be showing what their new boat can do this afternoon.

The Ann and James Ritchie 2 is a Shannon Class which arrived earlier this year.

It's much quicker than the old boat and includes features which help make it more comfortable in stormy seas.

Today Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer will formally name the boat at a naming ceremony, and service of dedication, in front of invited guests, family and friends.

The Ann and James Ritchie 2 will then be launched at around 12pm with the crew giving a demonstration of the operational capabilities of the £2.2 million lifeboat.

The day will continue with a “Lifeboat Afternoon“ between 12.30pm and 5pm.

Subject to operational requirements, and weather conditions, there will be an opportunity to have a look around the boat before she is recovered at 4.30pm.

Lifeboat Operations Manager Kevin Christian says, now the volunteer crew have completed their training, it's time to welcome the vessel officially:
