Local Government Minister John Shimmin says he may set up a fund to compensate local authorities forced to reduce rates for those affected by government schemes.
In Tynwald this week, he was asked by Onchan MHK Peter Karran whether such a idea was possible in the wake of a 75 per cent reduction for residents in White Hoe affected by the IRIS scheme.
Mr Shimmin (pictured) said the suggestion hadn’t been discussed by the council of ministers.
But he said he’d collect information from the rent and rating appeal commissioners and consider the idea.
