Re-enactment at Castle Rushen next weekend

Damsels in distress and wannabe knights should make their way to Strand Street in Douglas today (Saturday).

From 9.30am to 2pm, a medieval soldier will be standing guard in the street to tell passers-by of some up and coming activities at Castle Rushen.

A re-enactment will be taking place at the ancient site, brought to life by the group Conquest.

Members of the organisation will be setting up a tented camp during the weekend of May 21 and 22, and returning the castle to the 13th century.

Visitors will be transported back to times past, and will be able to experience some of the sights, sounds and smells of a medieval castle garrison.

There will also be talks on a variety of subjects ranging from food and drink, medicine and surgery to arms and armour.
