Reassurance for parents after TB outbreak

Health chiefs are reassuring parents after a case of tuberculosis was confirmed at an Island primary school.

Letters will today (Monday) be sent out to all parents of Ashley Hill school in Onchan, while children who have been in close contact with the pupil affected are to be screened for the infection.

However, the message from the Public Health Directorate is that TB is a very treatable infection and there’s no cause for concern.

Public Health Director Dr Kishore says the condition is completely curable.

Schools are shut this week due to half-term. Anyone with concerns can contact the Public Health Directorate on 642688.
