Refurbishment race at the Bowl




Work to transform the Bowl stadium in Douglas in time for next year's Commonwealth Youth Games is getting underway.

The three million pounds needed to carry out the project was only agreed by Tywnald last week - at its last session before the summer break.

But plans are now off the drawing board and work on the three thousand-seater floodlit stadium can begin in earnest.

It includes installing a new synthetic pitch and new seating for 3,000.

The arena will host the Games opening ceremony and the Rugby Sevens.

Project director Mike Ball says as well as being a superb venue for the Games, it will provide a sporting legacy for the Island:
