Human rights NGO welcomes same-sex marriage law
The legalisation of gay marriage is the future, according to Amnesty International.
Same-sex unions have been legal on the Island since Friday after the Marriage and Civil Partnership Act received Royal Assent last week.
Northern Ireland is now the only part of Britain where gay marriage remains illegal.
The law was opposed by certain politicians and members of the public on religious grounds.
Patrick Corrigan from Amnesty has reiterated the fact religious practitioners won't be forced to carry out the ceremonies.
