Residents 'shocked' to be fined for parking on pavements outside homes

MHK says officers have been targeting housing estates instead of shopping areas

Some residents in the south of the Island have been shocked to receive fines for parking on pavements outside their homes.

That's according to an Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK who's asking about the Department of Infrastructure's policy in Tynwald this morning.

Last month police started cracking down on people who park illegally by issuing fixed penalty notices instead of advisory notes.

Jason Moorhouse says some have been surprised to find officers targeting housing estates rather than busy shopping areas:

Meanwhile a charity which supports people who have visual impairments says it doesn't believe motorists always realise how dangerous their actions can be.

Sight Matters works with around 500 people with varying degrees of sight loss and says it's an issue which is continually highlighted.
