Review into sex education curriculum will be published 'as quickly as possible'

Important to establish the facts, says Minister

A review into the new Relationships and Sex Education curriculum, which was being taught in the Island's schools, will be published 'as quickly as possible'.

That's the commitment made by the education minister in the House of Keys this morning, after her department paused the classes due to concerns from parents regarding the content involved.

Julie Edge would not give an exact timescale for the external investigation to take place.

She says it's vital to establish the facts:

UK media outlets have picked up and published reports regarding drag queens in the Island's schools, with a particular focus on Peel's QEII High School.

These claims are yet to be verified by the Department of Education.

Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher asked why the department could not provide some clarity:

'The document referred to and included within the video is a document from a third party organisation and forms no part of the curriculum being delivered in our primary and secondary schools.' - Julie Edge

In her initial response, Minister Edge referred to a video currently circulating on social media:

Manx Radio has contacted the Department of Education, Sport and Culture and is awaiting a response.
