Road improvement schemes begin

Two major schemes to refurbish roads and pavements in the capital are starting this morning (Monday).

Workers from the Department of Infrastructure are installing new kerbs and block paving to replace what are considered 'dilapidated' pavements on Prospect Hill in Douglas, between Circular Road and Athol Street.

It should make crossing easier for people in wheelchairs and with pushchairs.

Motorists travelling into Douglas along Bucks Road will have to turn right at Circular Road, as Prospect Hill will be one way out of town between Finch Road and Circular Road.

Noisy excavation work will undertaken outside of office hours to minimise the impact on local businesses.

Meanwhile, a 19-week scheme to improve the entrance road to Police Headquarters, up to the roundabout at the top of Victoria Road, is also due to begin.
