Road reopens after Quay fire

Crews thanked for endeavour

Roads in the capital have reopened, following a serious fire on South Quay this afternoon.

The area was placed under lockdown around 2pm, with fire crews battling the flames for almost four hours.

Residents were asked to avoid the area due to the possibility of toxic black smoke from the warehouse where the fire broke out.

Coastguards were also deployed to control the spread of potentially-contaminated water in the nearby harbour.

The Chief Constable, Gary Roberts, has praised the 'great work by great people' in dealing with such an 'unusual' event.
