Rock Academy chance for Island youngsters

Budding rock stars are being offered the chance to work with leading professionals from the United Kingdom this summer.

In a first for the Isle of Man, the Department of Education and Children's Soundcheck project is inviting singers, drummers, bass players and guitarists to enrol at Rock Academy, to be held for five days from August 5.

Those taking part will be coached by six tutors, including vocal coach Kim Roberts, who worked with the choir Sense of Sound on its recent sell-out tour with Russell Watson; songwriter Dave Temple, who has worked with Amy Winehouse and Death in Vegas; and drum coach Shane Kerwin, who is currently teaching and playing in New York.

The 40 participants picked will take part in a week of workshops and tuition from 10am to 4pm daily, culminating in a public gig on the Friday evening.
