Roundabout for Governor's Bridge

An end is in sight to the confusion at Governor's Bridge.

Next week work will begin on the construction of a roundabout, similar to the one at the bottom end of Lord Street, Douglas.

Currently there is a flat red circle which was put there at the request of the TT Safety Committee.

But it's been decided a roundabout wouldn't pose a risk to riders, and would help motorists use it properly.

A circle of bollards had to placed around the red circle because so many people were driving straight over it instead of observing the rules of the roundabout.

Highway Schemes manager Jim Davidson (pictured) says disruption will be kept to a minimum during the construction, with work avoiding the morning and evening rush hours.

He was asked whether the centre of the roundabout would be decorated with flowers or a palm tree:
