Royal backing for £10 million Peel Cathedral appeal

Ambitious plans to improve St German's cathedral in Peel will be outlined to Princess Anne when she visits the Island next week (Tuesday 21).

Her Royal Highness has recently become patron of a £10 million appeal to ensure the cathedral's long-term future.

The money will be spent both on renovating and extending the building itself, and developing what goes on inside it!

Plans include creating a cathedral choir school, and adding new facilities in and around the cathedral for visitors and the local community.

Princess Anne will also tour the Department of Environment HQ in St John's and make a brief visit to Jurby prison, before opening Ballavartyn Equestrian Centre in Santon.

Bishop Robert Paterson will greet the royal visitor in Peel.

He says the appeal is designed to future-proof the Island's most important place of worship
