A dentist in the Isle of Man has been suspended from practicing for six months by the United Kingdom's General Dental Council, the Department of Health has confirmed.
Gunter Zimmerman, who works as one of the Island's NHS dentists and is based at the surgery at 65 Woodbourne Road in Douglas, admitted a string of charges.
They related to work he carried out on a 'Patient A' in September 2006.
Among other things, he failed to get the patient's social or dental history, carried out some treatments without her consent, including fixing a permanent bridge, and failed to discuss treatment options or make her fully aware of the risks associated with some of the work.
Mr Zimmerman's record keeping throughout was described as poor.
He also allowed his indemnity insurance to lapse in April 2008, meaning he wasn't covered when a claim was made by 'Patient A', in August 2008.
The Department of Health says it is not aware of any other concerns about Mr Zimmerman's professional competence or any problems relating to NHS patients.
