Rush to sign 'toilet tax' petition

An online petition against the Water and Sewerage Authority's planned 'toilet tax' had attracted more than 2,100 signatures before midday on Sunday.

It was only launched yesterday.

The blanket, £50 charge, which will come in on April 1, was announced by WASA Chairman John Houghton in Tynwald this week.

The intention is to double the charge next year, with the possibility of it rising still further in subsequent years.

The petition says, "We refuse to pay this bill when it arrives while our money is been squandered on luxuries (£80 kerbstones, Dining carriages for trains making a loss, and millions and millions of pounds worth of stakes in film studios seeing little return to name a few) by the government."
