Rushen want cooperation on Ballakilley rate dispute

Move labelled insensitive

The chairman of Rushen commissioners says he wants cooperation to resolve a boundary dispute with a neighbouring authority, rather than an public enquiry.

Peter Gunn has explained there's disappointment with their Port Erin counterparts' attempts to extend its territory over the whole of the Ballakilley estate.

Port Erin Commissioners say the application for the extension, sent to the Department of Infrastructure last December, is based on 'creating a coherent community' to contribute towards local services.

Rushen Commissioners have labelled the move 'insensitive' and warned ratepayers at Ballakilley they may have to pay double under Port Erin's stewardship.

Mr Gunn says dialogue would have been a better way to resolve the issue.
