The Isle of Man Salt Company submitted plans for The Boathouse in Port St Mary
A restaurant in the south of the Island could become home to a salt manufacturer under a new planning proposal.
The Isle of Man Salt Company has submitted the plans for The Boathouse in Port St Mary.
Currently the company evaporates sea water in a polytunnel to produce its salt, however as this weather dependent it isn't possible year-round.
To solve this, the company plans to move its processing into the restaurant which would 'enable the business to expand, increase employment and increase the amount of products sold both on and off Island'.
The remainder of the building would continue to operate as a café.
