Salvation Army fears over rising need

More people require charity services

The Salvation Army says a 'growing number' of Island residents are in need of food, warmth and support this Christmas.

Volunteers are busy conducting the charity's annual appeal, with financial help this year again from property developers Dandara.

Hundreds of families and individuals will receive gifts and donations over the next few weeks, with a hearty meal for elderly and needy residents set for Boxing Day.

Captain Simon Clampton says he's been 'humbled' by the public response so far, but voiced concerns that staff were working 'harder than ever' to ensure rising demand could be met.
