Salvation Army gears up for Christmas

The Salvation Army says the idea that rattling collection tins could be offensive is "laughable".

The comment comes in the wake of reports in the United Kingdom media, and as the charity gears up for one of its busiest times of the year, with the traditional appearances by the Army band around the Island.

Major Nigel Collins (pictured) from the local branch says he certainly doesn't want to make an issue of it.

But he also believes that if people want to give to the charity, to help it carry out its work in the community, they will do so regardless of a few rattling tins:
