Santas galore at capital's seasonal spectacle!

A sea of red Santas will take to the streets of the capital this lunchtime  (18 Dec).

More than 200 runners have signed-up for the Isle of Man Bank charity Santa Dash, smashing last year's start line record 131 Santas.

Traffic will come to a standstill in central Douglas at 1230 as runners in an array of Santa costumes set off from the bank's headquarters on Athol Street.

Due to major roadworks on Loch prom competitors will turn left on Victoria Street at the RBS building and onto the prom via Villiers Square.

The it's back to normal - along the prom and up Church Road to the finishing line at South Douglas Old Friends Association on Finch Road.

As the diversion makes the course shorter, there will be no new records even if the fastest ever times are broken - 4 minutes 20 seconds in the men's race and 5' 05" for the fastest female Santa.

The spectacle raises thousands of pounds for local good causes, with all participants raising sponsorship for a Manx-based charity.

Isle of Man Bank has put up a prize pot of almost £3000 for the first three finishers plus the first female Santa home, the best-dressed Santa and spot prizes for pre determined but secret finishing positions.

Competitors must sign-on at the Old Friends from 12 noon, where results will be announced at a reception after the event.
