Scheme to complement 'Bring Banks'

It's hoped members of the public will continue to use the recycling banks around the Island, when the first large scale kerb-side collection scheme gets under way later this year.

The recycling initiative will involve two colour-coded plastic boxes being issued to each of 16,000 homes in Douglas, Onchan and Braddan.

The Department of the Environment aims to distribute the containers in October, by which time three kerbside collection vehicles would be available to collect the materials.

Departmental member with responsibility for waste management Dudley Butt, MLC, says it's the right way forward (audio file attached):

The scheme will take a big step forward next week, if Tynwald approves funding of £750,000.
