Sentence on a 45-year old man has been adjourned by the High Bailiff for reports.
Robert Scott of Douglas admitted drink driving and using a van in a dangerous condition.
Inspector Richard Power, prosecuting, said that police had followed a trail of diesel from Murrays Road to Palatine Road where they saw a van parked at an angle with a wing mirror touching railings.
The defendant was in the van, clearly drunk, and police saw a jerry can in the back of the van which had been leaking diesel. It was almost empty.
The defendant's blood alcohol reading following his arrest was 253 milligrammes - the legal limit is 80mg.
Inspector Power said the van had several severe defects.
Scott was bailed by Mr Moyle to October 30th.
