A sailor who went missing from a Manx-registered container ship is presumed dead after a two-day sea search in the Mediterranean failed to find him.
The 38-year-old Moldavian sailor was travelling on the Thor Star and was last seen at 5am on Thursday when he went to rest in his cabin.
Seven hours later, his shipmates noticed he was missing, sparking a huge search by rescue teams from Almeria, Tarifa and Valencia, between the Strait of Gibraltar and Cabo de Gata.
The search was called off after two days, when rescuers said it was impossible he could still be alive after so much time in the water.
