Security operation mounted for Tywnald Day

Police undertake behind-the-scenes operation to ensure peoples safety

Final security preparations are under way around the Island, ahead of Tynwald Day tomorrow (6 July).

Specialist officers have been searching key routes to and from St John's, where VIP guests will gather to watch the annual outdoor sitting of the Manx parliament and our national day celebrations.

Senior officers have been briefed by UK authorities on the latest precautions advised for public occasions, in the light of recent terror activity in Europe.

Inspector Derek Flint says a behind-the-scenes operation carried out every year, is designed to ensure the safety of all.

He says any fresh advice will be heeded.
