A&E bosses downplay strain fears

Doctors are downplaying concerns resources were 'overstretched' following a serious incident earlier this week.

Four people died after a car collided with a bus stop in Laxey on Monday morning.

Health bosses issued a statement later that day asking residents not to attend A&E unless 'absolutely necessary' - prompting fears about whether the department could cope.

Senior emergency doctor David Hedley says while such incidents can have a 'knock-on effect' on staff priorities, concerns about the workload are unwarranted:
