SES submits satellite plans

Four dishes due to go up at Carnane

A satellite company has submitted amended plans for a four-dish facility on the outskirts of the Island's capital.

One of them will be built slightly lower, to make it less visible.

The telecommunications port ('teleport') is due to be built at Carnane, near Douglas Head.

Isle of Man-based SES Satellite Leasing - the largest company of its kind in the world - announced its intentions in September last year, saying it wanted to expand its own capacity.

It also wants to provide opportunities to attract broadcast media companies to the Isle of Man, working with the Department of Economic Development.

In its application, SES says the facility would be the first space industry-related physical infrastructure here, securing and growing the presence of the Island's space, ICT and digital media business and job base.
