Accident in area traffic calming measures demanded

A seven-year-old girl suffered injuries to her hip, ribs and ankle in a hit and run incident in Douglas yesterday.

Cassie-Mai Osbourne was struck by what's thought to be a white 4x4 just before 7pm at the junction between Allan Street and Westmoreland Road.

She's understood to be shaken but on the mend.

A group of parents had already raised concerns about the volume of traffic in the area prior to this incident.

They were hoping to present a petition calling for action on the issue to the Department of Infrastructure Minister, Ray Harmer, on Monday.

That never materialised, however, and it's thought this collision could lead to increased pressure from parents keen for traffic calming measures to be introduced.

Cassie-Mai's mother Natalie is pleading with the driver to come forward - saying the least she deserves is an apology.

If you have any information regarding this incident you're asked to call police headquarters on 631 212.
