Severe gales will force promenades to close

Motorists urged not to park near sea

Road closures will be put in place tomorrow due to forecast coastal overtopping.

The Isle of Man is being placed under a yellow weather warning from 9am tomorrow (7 December).

Severe gales are expected with gusts of up to 70 miles per hour due to Storm Barra.

From 12pm the following closures will be in operation:

  • Douglas: Douglas Promenade between Greensill’s Corner and Port Jack; and parking suspended on the walkway
  • Ramsey: Mooragh Promenade and Queens Promenade
  • Laxey: Laxey Promenade

The road closures will be in place until 4pm with motorists advised not to park in these areas.

Ronaldsway Met Office is warning that the winds will bring ‘significant’ amounts of water and debris onto exposed promenades for a few hours each side of high water.

That is due to be 1.20pm on Tuesday, 7 December and 1.50am on Wednesday, 8 December.

Any vehicles parked near exposed promenades will be at risk of serious damage and there will be a risk of injury to anyone trying to move them during this time.
