Severe weather update (12am)

Storm force winds are continuing to rage across the Island, uprooting trees and causing damage to property, with many slates being blown from roofs.

Around midnight, police reported three trees had been blown down across the Switchback Road, in the west of the Island.

As a result, the route was closed along its full length, between the Poortown Road and the Peel to Kirk Michael coast road.

Around 11pm, officers said Mill Road in Peel has been closed, at its junction with Station Place and the fish yards, so a large section of corrugated roofing, which had come off a shed, could be removed from the road.

Meanwhile, the section of the main road between Douglas and Peel between Ballacraine Crossroads and the Glen Darragh Road in Glen Vine remains closed, due to a tree coming down on power cables at Crosby Crossroads.

The Manx Electricity Authority doesn't expect the road to be clear until around 1am.
