Sewage treatment plans to change?

A change of strategy in the way the Island treats its sewage is to be considered by Tywnald later this month.

Under the orginal IRIS water treatment project, it was intended all the Island's sewage would be pumped to the Meary Veg plant in Santon - which currently serves two thirds of the population.

But technology and energy costs have moved on - and the Department of Transport says there are big savings to be made by having several, smaller plants to serve the west, north and east of the Island.

Minister David Anderson says they've taken a long hard look at what will serve the Island best for the future.
