Sharp drop in visitor numbers

Figure falls by 8.7%

There was a sharp drop in visitors to the Island last year.

Numbers fell by more than 25,000 between 2016 and 2017 - that's down 8.7% on the previous year, and the lowest figure in a decade.

But overall, the number of people leaving the Island rose by 1.9%, meaning residents are going away in greater numbers than ever.

Government's 2017 Passenger Survey also shows nearly 10,000 fewer people visited the Island on business than in 2016.

The figures do show an increase in what visitors spend here on average, though - with the total contribution in 2017 estimated at around £112 million.
